Thinking about appealing your property taxes? You aren’t the only one. According to  TurboAppeal, over 99,000 people filed for an appeal for their single family home last year with over 60% of those people winning their appeal.

If you think that you are paying too much taxes on your property, a good way to do your own research before you appeal is by looking for homes similar to yours in your neighborhood and seeing how much they are paying. Then if you feel that you are over paying, go ahead and contact TurboAppeal or another website/company you are confident about working with.

Keep in mind, the person(s) working with you will either take a percentage of your first year tax savings or will have an up front. Appealing your taxes is definitely something you should consider looking into. It can save you a ton of money in the long run.

The title of this blog is stating the obvious, Logan Square has one of the best (and friendliest, in my opinion) farmers markets in Chicago. But we are definitely not the only ones in the city that stand out. Here a few others you should check out to support your neighborhood while taking advantage of some fresh produce.

Green City Market, taking place on Clark between Lincoln and Stockton, every Wednesday and Saturday 71m-1pm through October 31.

Museum of Contemporary Art at 22o E Chicago every Tuesday from 7am-2pm through October 27. You can have your art and eat it too!

Pilsen Community Market taking place at 1800 S. Halsted every Sunday 9am-2pm through October 25. This market has added meat and a community flea market selling all sorts of goodies!

Daley Plaza Farmers Market taking place at Dearborn and Washington every thursday from 7am-3pm until October 29. This is probably the most popular farmer’s market because it is also been around the longest.

61st Street Farmers Market between Dorchester and Blackstone on 61st taking place every Saturday from 9am-2pm until Halloween day.

And at last…. Logan Square Farmers Market located at 3107 W. Logan taking place every Sunday from 10am-3pm until October 25 celebrating it’s 10th year this year!

People in the fitness world are always looking for the next best thing when it comes to shedding those pounds while also having fun and toning. Climbing seems to be the craze this time around, so it’s no surprise that people are excited about First Ascent finally giving word that they will be opening sometime mid August.

The walls meant for climbing within the gym are manufactured by a top-notch company in Sofia, Bulgaria and are suppose to be the best of their kind. One of the world’s best climbers, Chris Sharma, will be gracing the gym for a grand opening event and you can have a chance to see him if you have a qualifying pre-sale membership.

This will be a perfect indoor activity come August when the weather gets a little cooler and you get tired of running and want to try something new.

On May 7^th, about 200 people packed into the Mega Mall building for the unveiling of the plans for the future of the place where they were sitting.

 

The proposal is for 267 apartments, 115,000 square feet of retail space and about 350-400 parking spaces. They want to erect a fitness center and a large grocer as well and introduce a traffic signal on Milwaukee Avenue between Sacramento and Logan Blvd. There might also be room for eight to ten neighborhood businesses although that isn’t certain as of yet. This area would be called “Logan’s Crossing,” and if you look at the rendering, it looks like Woodfield Mall or the small Webster Theater area.

 

These are some big plans for a not so big area. Let’s hope that if the plans are authorized to proceed, that it fits in with the rest of the neighborhood.

Well, according to the data collected from Redfin’s Real-Time Housing Market Tracker and the National Association of Realtors, Logan Square, the West Loop, and Ukrainian Village is the place to be. Homes in Ukrainian Village are turning over on an average of 10 days while the West Loop and LS tie for an average of 14 days.

 

Since these three neighborhoods are good with the buyers, obviously it is also a good time to sell because properties in these areas are prime and in demand right now. So if you are thinking about selling or buying within these locations, get on the move, this is your time to get the best bang for your buck.

Logan Square might be known for its vintage bungalow-lined boulevard and tantalizing fresh market during the warmer months but it is also quickly becoming known for the amazing festivals that are frequenting and sprouting in and around the area. Here are a few free fests to keep your eyes peeled out for.

 

Logan Square Arts Festival: June 26-28

 

This fest is organized by I am Logan Square and allows local artists to exhibit their work in galleries and businesses. It takes place around the Logan Square Blue Line at Kedzie, Milwaukee, and Logan and also has live music, food, and drinks from nearby restaurants and bars.

 

Tour De Fat: July 11, 10am-5pm

 

No, unfortunately it is not what you think it is, this is not a festival you go to stuff your face. It’s basically a homage to bikes, beer, and music which is an impeccable combination. It was started by New Belgium and takes place in Palmer Square at Palmer and Kedzie. They have some amazing summer beers at this year’s Tour De Fat like a blood orange saison! Who can say no to that?

 

Taste of Latin America: August 1 (11am-10pm) August 2 (11am-9pm)

 

This is exactly what you think it is and then some. Latin American cuisine for your eating pleasures along with arts and crafts and cooking demonstrations in the case that you want to recreate some of Central and South America’s finest foods.

 

Bucktown Arts festival: August 29-30 11am-7pm

 

The enormous personality of the good old Square sometimes overshadows Bucktown but it has successfully maintained this art festival for over 30 years. It features artists, theater performances, a poetry contest, and a line up of great music.
