Developer Perry Casalino has proposed the construction of 5 luxury single-family homes priced at over $900,000 each. Since the completion of the 606 trail, many developers have been trying to snag a piece of Logan Square and Humboldt Park alike.
Community members from the Logan Square Neighborhood Association and Grassroots Illinois Action are afraid that as these high-priced homes are built, their rent and property taxes are likely to increase, forcing longtime residents to move out of what they have called home.
“Our taxes are going up and our paychecks are staying the same,” said Juan Media, who has lived in Humboldt Park for over 30 years. “We will be forced to sell if we haven’t been already. My neighbors that have already been forced to sell can’t afford the rent in this neighborhood anymore.”
