A neat little doughnut shop coffee and has opened along the 606 Bloomingdale Trail known as Donut Delight. The owner, Merhawit Keleta, shared her touching history in an interview with dnainfo’s Paul Biasco about leaving Africa in the midst of a civil war with her mother. Knowing about the trials that her mother faced while she was only five, Keleta looks to her mother for inspiration and motivation when it comes to tackling not only her new cafe, but while managing a Fogo de Chao in Rosemont, and three young kids too.
“I always just go back to my mom and know that if she was able to do what she did, then it’s nothing for me. It’s a day at a time. Get up in the morning and do what you need to do. You push,” said Keleta in this dnainfo story.
If her backstory, positive go-getter attitude, and fond memories of coffee don’t make you like her already, then the array of donuts she serves most definitely will. They have apple fritters, blazed butter milk, caramel, chocolate, jelly, powdered, strawberry, and toasted coconut.
The shop has had good reviews so far so go visit this lovely place and treat your sweet tooth at 1750 N. California!
