There were quite a few protesters at the Lathrop Homes site near Diversey Parkway and just past Logan Boulevard on March 21st. The protesters wanted to know where the 525-units were going to be which the CHA and Mayor Rahm Emanuel had promised would be made on the Northside to replace the units that became mixed-income sites.

At 8 pm on Palm Sunday, eight people were arrested for sitting-in in an empty unit in the complex after remaining there since 2 pm and were charged for trespassing. But the question still remains, where are the plans for these 525 units?

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced yesterday that Pilsen will be getting their own 606-like trail which will be spanning four miles through what is now an abandoned BNSF railway. According to this story on DNAinfo by Alex Nitkin, this is the third “rails to trails” path being put together since Emanuel’s tenure, the other two being the 606 Bloomingdale Trail and the ERA trail coming to Englewood.

This trail which will be winding through the Little Village and Pilsen neighborhoods will be called the Paseo, which means to stroll in Spanish. And with this trail, there will luckily be two separate lanes, one for bikers and the other for walkers so everyone can be happy.

These trails are a good idea to not only get various communities out and acquainted with one another, but to also get everyone moving.

During Tuesday’s election, a referendum was posed to residents of the 32nd ward which includes Bucktown, Logan Square, and portions of Lincoln Square. It asked if the alderman of the ward (Scott Waguespack) should pursue zoning policies that would basically protect the historic/vintage buildings in Logan Square as it contributes heavily to the character of the neighborhood.

Voting for the referendum was favorable, with a landslide of 92.6 percent of people agreeing that these zoning policies need to be established.
