There are plans in motion to demolish a 105-year-old church known as Saint John United Church of Christ located at 2442 W. Moffat. Again, like most of the developments cropping up in and around the Humboldt Park and Logan Square area, this building is in close proximity to the 606 as well as the Western blue line. Preservationists are trying to save this historic building from being torn down to create yet another condo complex.
Alderman Joe Moreno has been working with the developer to give the go ahead to change the zoning for the building so the demolition can begin.
“You are dooming the building, and with it you are erasing the memory of the congregation,” said Andrew Schneider, president of Logan Square Preservation. “Logan Square Preservation doesn’t believe that development policy should encourage … their demolition.” Quote taken from this dnainfo article by Paul Biasco.
