It can arguably be said that the Grace’s Furniture building overlooking the Illinois Centennial Monument and Logan Square Blue Line is situated smack dab in the middle of Logan Square. Naturally, the building should have its best face forward, which has not been the case for quite some time now, as the massive black painted side of the building atop which the infamous “Aloha” billboard is planted is in need of an update.
According to this article on DNAinfo by Paul Biasco, because of a long billboard battle, (you can read more about it in the article), Grace Martinez and her family–who have owned the building at 2618 North Milwaukee since 1976–have been unable to move forward with a redevelopment plan for the building until now. Rumors of the building becoming a hotel has been floating around but the official announcement will not be made for at least another few weeks.
