What is now City Farm in Old Town will soon become a mixed use seven-story mixed-use development, at least developers at Brinshore Development & Michael’s Development Co. hope it will. The plan has been in motion since 2010 for the area that is currently a community farm and would have to move closer to Division and Larabee if all goes well.
The article posted on dnainfo states that “There will be 26 public housing units, 16 affordable housing units for those at or below 60 percent of the area median income, 10 affordable housing units for those at or below 80 percent of the area median income and 32 market-rate units, Levavi said.”
In an area that was formerly known as the Cabrini-Green housing projects, a new development might be exactly what the area needs to give it some much needed attention. The development would cost $39 million $8.1 million has been approved by the Chicago Community Development Commision but is still awaiting approval from the City Council in September.
