The 606 (Bloomindale Trail) has brought together various communities from the adjoining neighborhoods and people from all over Chicago to view its wonder. However, even though the intentions for constructing the trail were in the right place, it has brought with it many issues as well. The trail has caused an increase in property value and in property taxes as well as with the rest of Chicago. Gentrification in Logan Square and Humboldt Park has also become an issue and many residents who feel like they are being pushed out are taking to the streets.
A march will be held today at 5:30pm at the 606 by some 600 activists to raise awareness about the lack of affordable housing and call for property tax reforms, explains Rachel Cromidas in this Chicagoist article. Six Chicago alderman have also pledged to attend.
