Since the Bloomingdale Trail (the 606) unveiled last summer, we have been hearing loads of great things about the rails-to-trails pathway that connects four of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods. About a week and a half ago it was announced that the trail had won the American Planning Association’s 2016 National Planning Excellence for Urban Design award.
According to this article on the Chicagoist by Mae Rice, the association warrants the award going to the 606 because it is the country’s most successful rails-to-trail project. It is also almost two-times the size of New York’s High Line. Six more ground-level parks will be added to the trail, bringing in more green space to the 2.7-mile trail.
