People have been saying it for a while, Avondale is going to be one of the newest hot neighborhoods in Chicago. It’s no wonder too as it is flanked by Logan Square, still a booming locale. A four-story, 33-unit development is being planned for 3063-71 N. Milwaukee. There will be retail spaces as well within the development, although it’s uncertain whether units will be listed for sale or rent.
Lost Lake Food Service Returns!
Lost Lake, the trendy tiki bar in Logan Square, has opened their kitchen back up for the first time since a fire that took place in March of 2016. According to this article in the Eater, a new Asian island-inspired menu created by Fred Noinaj has been added that is sure to entice your taste buds and, according to Noinaj, going to be at the same level as their amazing drinks menu.
For a taste of Polynesia, Thailand and Japan, (and to sample their ample tiki drinks), hit up Lost Lake.
Emporium Opening Pop-Up Event Space
Just six months after Emporium owners opened Surf Bar at 2367 North Milwaukee Avenue, they have decided to shut it down. According to this article on DNAinfo, a pop-up event space serving as an extension of Emporium, which is right next door, will be taking the place of the beach-themed bar. The owners will be partnering with liqueur brand Fernet-Branca for the new space, which will be called Branca Bar.
It’ll be modeled after Fernet’s Italian distillery tasting room and host various art, food and drink partners for “limited-run concepts.”
The Native Opens in Place of Old Bonny’s
The Native, located at 2417 N. Milwaukee, now occupies what used to be the late-night dive bar Bonny’s. Although it doesn’t have a 4am liquor license or dance floor, it does have a charm of its own. Inspired by Wisconsin supper clubs, the new bar is more of a place to enjoy beer, with ten on tap and about 25 bottled beers. The Native has a shuffle-type bowling game, 50-seat patio ready to be open in the spring, and a puppy named Dolly, belonging to the owners Jared and Carly Savocchi, to great you when you enter. With all the hustle and bustle in Logan Square, this might just be exactly what the neighborhood needs.

Possible Affordable Housing Development Coming to Logan Square
On top of the developments already under construction in our beloved Logan Square, the popular neighborhood could be looking at another complex really close to the Kedzie Blue Line station. According to this story on Curbed Chicago, the plan for a transit oriented that calls for 100% affordable housing, has been proposed by the United Neighbors of the 35th Ward. The new construction would be situated on Emmett Street in what is currently a parking lot near the Blue Line Station.
“The hypothetical scenarios featured proposals with a mix of uses, such as market rate housing, affordable housing, retail space, and park space. Developers who participated on a panel suggested that the focus should be on density and retail space while residents voted in favor of providing new green space and affordable housing,” says AJ Latrace.

Current Developments in Logan Square
If you live in or around the Logan Square area, then you know that construction has been booming since last summer in the area. The Logan Square Crossing development will be bringing with it a Jewel and a fitness center along with units, but that certainly isn’t the only development. According to this article on Curbed Chicago and the map provided above, it’s easy to see just how many new buildings are springing up, providing the city with lots of apartment units and retail space. By the time 2020 rolls around, Logan Square and neighboring areas are going to look very different.
